Hello! It was lovely to read that some of my readers are excited to join in with a little bit of ripple blanket making. I thought we should probably get started with some pre-blanket homework of sorts, but first a few questions answered:
How will the ripple-along work? It's just going to be a casual ripple-along and they'll be no rules. You can crochet a ripple blanket to whatever size you like and we can hopefully keep each other inspired to keep rippling until our blankets are finished. Woot!
What about sharing our blanket progress? You can blog your blanket progress and I can do a little fortnightly link up post on here for everybody, if you like. No blog? That's okay - perhaps you can load your photo up to flickr or create a separate pinterest board for sharing, then I can link that up too.
Now, some of you might already have a pattern all ready to go for the ripple-along, but just incase you don't - here are a couple of lovely tutorials on how to crochet your blanket:
- I used THIS pattern by Lucy from Attic 24 for my last blanket - I'll be using it again for this next project.
- Pip from Meet Me At Mikes has a nice tutorial over on her blog too - go HERE.
Once you've acquainted yourself with the pattern it's time to start thinking about your blanket colours. Choosing the colours for a blanket can be super fun, but it can also be a bit daunting - especially if you've never created a blanket before. Sites like Ravelry & Pinterest will give you endless colourway choices for your blanket - so my number one tip would be to pop over there and have a look if you're struggling to decide.
Here are a few lovely colour combinations for the ripple that have caught my eye recently:
{Source} A pretty girly blanket - I'm a fan of that splash of orange.
{Source} Who doesn't love a rainbow?! I'm planning a rainbow ripple one day, but not this time around.
{Source} A sweet combination of blues and greens.
{Source} Veggie Mama recently finished this cute little black and pink number - love!
{Source} I'm a wee bit obsessed with yellow lately, so this one really tickles my fancy.
OKay, so your homework for this week is:
- Decide which ripple pattern you're going to use & have a mini run through of the pattern.
- Think about yarn for the blanket and once you've settled on a colourway, pop out and grab some yarn ready to start!
- Work out what size you're going to do the blanket & perhaps draw yourself up a guide for the colour scheme you have in mind.
Next Monday we'll start crocheting - woot!
If you'd like to join in with the ripple-along, pop your name in the comments section so I can start a list! Be sure to link your blog too.
Questions? Just ask!
This is going to be so fun!!
P.S. I'll be back tomorrow to share the yarn that I'm using.
