As part of the Finish Quantum We Love Messy Meals campaign, I've been experimenting with my own favourite messy meals. It would be SO fabulous if one of my lovely readers won this, so I'm sharing to help get your mind spinning with ideas for the competition.
{Some of our dishes after a dinner meal}
Spaghetti Bolognaise seems to be a popular messy meal that everyone enjoys (we do!) but there are quite a few others that can turn our kitchen into a disaster zone. Here are just a few:
- Bacon & eggs - you know when the bacon fat splatters up everywhere? All over the oven, bench tops, frying pan and sometimes floor.
- Tacos - Bella and I adore tacos. They drop everywhere (ha!) and we seem to end up with 20 million dishes to wash at the end.
- Pancakes on a Sunday morning - our family tradition, but goodness the pancake mix can end up for miles some mornings, especially if little people are cooking.
- Cake cooking - one cake is okay, but if I'm on a cooking spree then there can be several bowls, cake tins, messy beaters, cake coolers and such on the go. I love cooking cakes, but I don't enjoy the dishes being piled high for clean up afterwards.
But, our current all time favourite meal that seems to make the BIGGEST mess is our wood fired oven pizzas:
We seem to end up with flour, polenta, grated cheese, pizza sauce and a whole pile of other ingredients on the floor, kitchen cupboard doors and bench tops. It starts off all pretty and civilised, much like this:
But, we just can't seem to master keeping it like that. A wood fired meal usually starts off with me making our own pizza sauce - that's a blender, saucepan, chopping board, knife, spoon and pizza sauce storage container that I need to get started.
Then, we have the dough making and pizza ingredient chopping. Flour seems to fly everywhere while we're making the pizzas too - we like to practise swishing the pizza dough in the air :)
Once all the making and eating is over, we seem to have bowls and dishes and all sorts of sticky, piled high for washing!
So, that's our number one messy meal in a nutshell :)
Now, what about you....what's your messiest family meal? Go and enter HERE.
Good luck.
