I thought I'd share a cute DIY project (little bear pencil toppers) for today's blog post. Fridays are nice for that sort of thing, don't you think?
I love making pencil toppers! They're fun, fast, easy and great to add into birthday presents or whip up in a production line for fairs or markets. I've also shared a few other pencil topper tutorials on my blog over the last couple of years, which you can find HERE.
You'll need: pencils, felt, craft glue, embroidery cotton, scissors, needle and a couple of tiny buttons for the eyes.
You'll also need to print out the templates here - Download Pencil topper PDF *I quickly drew this up this morning, it's just a fast sketch - please excuse the slightly wobbly lines.
Step 1: Cut out the pattern pieces as directed on the PDF.
Step 2: Embroider the mouth and a little cross for the nose - glue onto the main face shape.
Step 3: Stitch on some button eyes and glue the ears into position.
Step 4: Glue the necks onto each completed bear head.
Step 5: Apply a generous amount of glue to both heads - back + front.
Step 6: Place the pencil (as shown above) onto one bear head - add the other head and squish everything together with your fingers, moulding the felt around the pencil top as you go to complete the design.
You're all set now for some fun and creative writing! I'll be sharing a second pencil topper pattern in the next issue of Teapot - hitting your mailboxes in just under two weeks.
