Welcome to project 4:
This Valentines brooch is another easy and quick project that you'll be able to whip up in under an hour. I've just popped a mini safety pin on the back, but you can buy brooch backs from jewellery/bead supply stores if you want to make it look a bit prettier.
Here's what you'll need:
♥ Felt, for the heart (we used a felted jumper).
♥ Sewing machine
♥ Teeny tiny fabric scraps
♥ Small pin or brooch back
♥ Needle + cotton - for stitching on the pin
♥ Cookie cutter - for heart design.
♥ Pen, paper + scissors
Draw around a love heart shaped cookie cutter to create a heart pattern for the brooch.
Cut out a felt heart - we used a felted jumper.
Cut out a series of tiny fabric scrap squares and position on the heart, leaving a small outer edge of the red felt showing all the way around.
*Note* You don't have to fill the middle of the heart with the scraps. If you prefer just do a layer around the edge. I chose to fill the heart because it's more of a surprise then, when you remove the centre fabric bits and see which pieces your sewing machine has caught and sewn.
Machine stitch (a nice contrasting thread) around the outer edge of the heart.
Remove the centre pieces to reveal the fabric heart.
Hand stitch a small safety pin to the reverse side of the heart.
Ta-da! You're all done :) Now pop over to Tamar's blog to see her sweet creation for today.
