A week or so ago I came across the popover sundress pattern by Oliver + S. I printed out the pattern and started thinking about sewing one up for Bella. A few days later I had the idea that I might be able to alter the pattern slightly and turn it into a smocked sundress instead. Because I wasn't sure if it would work or not, I decided to do a mock version using an old bed sheet.
I smocked a simple pattern on the front in the morning and sewed it up in the afternoon and yes, it worked!
I actually really adore the bed sheet print too, it has a lovely vintage feel to it and fits Bella so nicely. Bella is wearing this one as a summer nightie - although she's already wearing it and it definitely isn't summer here yet! I really want to make more, including a special one in navy fabric {with red smocking) for Christmas day - if I can find the right fabric.
While I'm talking about sewing - thankyou so much to everyone that's joining in with the sew-a-long next week. There are 20 names in my side bar so far, which is wonderful - hooray for hand made! Tomorrow I'll share a few of the fabrics that I'm going to be using for my lazy days skirts - there's still time to join in too, just leave a message if you'd like to play along.
