Our DVD player finally died on the weekend, so Rich and Bella (yes she loves appliance shopping) went shopping for a new one. Bella then created a small car for herself using the leftover box. She added a side pocket for mail and along with James they began letter writing to everybody in the family, with Bella delivering the letters in her postbox car.
They really needed a mail box, so we bought a plain white box from Big W ($1 on sale) and painted it red, a packet of 50 dog stamps ($2-25 from the post office), a new glue stick to glue the stamps onto the envelopes (ours had dried up) and found some small envelopes and little cards to complete our postbox set up.
We have a rule that the envelopes don't get sealed (this way we can recylce them over and over) and apparently the post office opens when Bella rises in the morning and closes at 7.3opm that night - this way Bella can squeeze in a postal delivery (in her new car) before bed to everyone in the family.
There have been some really delightful letters written to everybody. It did get a little ugly last night when James wrote a note to Bella from the Grim Reaper - but we've made a new rule about Grim Reaper notes and James is going to have a word to Mr Reaper and let him know the new rule.
A lot of these notes will definitely be tucked away to read in years to come.
