Here's the second felt food tutorial.
To begin right hand click on the template below and save to 'my documents'. You can then print out the template on a4 paper and cut out your felt food pieces ready to begin. The large circle (tomato) should measure (when printed) approximately 8cm in width - but remember, this is only a guide - your food can be any size :)
Materials:
Apart from felt you will also need a little stuffing (for the icecream) and also a paddle pop stick (for the icecream handle). If you don't have any paddlepop sticks a strong piece of card would work well (just cover it with felt to hide the card).
Step 1 - Tomato slices.
Position the precut white tomato slice on top of the red felt circle. Machine stitch this into position to complete the tomato slice (refer to the photograph for stitching guide).
I chose not to put a backing on the tomato - but if you prefer a really neat finish simply cut out another red circle and machine stitch it onto the existing red circle.
Step 1 - Lemon Slices.
Position the white piece of felt on top of the yellow background. Machine stitch into place.
Step 2 -
Now position the five small slices onto the lemon. Machine stitch into position.
Step 3 -
Place the other large yellow circle directly behind the one that you've just sewed and machine stitch around the outer edge to hold both pieces together.
Step 1 - Ice cream
Machine stitch the two main pieces of the ice cream together.
Step 2 -
Turn the complete piece inside out and stuff nicely.
Step 3 -
Poke the paddle pop stick in the ice cream through the middle of the stuffing.
Step 4 -
Pin the small white pieces of felt to each side of the icecream as shown in the photograph.
Step 5 -
Now you are going to machine stitch the bottom of the ice cream closed. Yep, straight over the top of the paddle pop stick! For those that haven't sewn through wood before, your needle will be okay I promise. I've never broken a needle (so far) and I've sewn through quite a lot of thin wood/chipboard on my machine. Sometimes the needle goes straight through without problems and other times you need to hand wind it through.
