Day 2 - Christmas trees in denim

Img_9293

Materials:

*Denim scraps

*Buttons in your selected colour

*sewing machine, needle for stitching on buttons, scissors, pins

*Embroidery cotton - 2 or 3 strands (for holding buttons in position)

*stuffing for the trees

*Ribbon - 22cm per decoration - 16cm for the top loop and 6cm for the bottom of the tree.

*pinking shears (for the crinkle edge on the trees) - alternatively you could cut it straight (with normal scissors) and fray it slightly once stitched into position for a nice effect.

Christmas_tree_template

Use the diagram/size chart above to draw out a template on paper or card. Cut this template out.

Pin the template onto a piece of denim - cut out two trees (per decoration) using the pinking shears.

Stitch 3 buttons onto the front of one tree.

Cut out each tree loop (for the bottom and top of tree) from ribbon. See materials list for top and bottom sizings.

Machine stitch the tree together (pin the top and bottom ribbon loop in place prior to stitching) - be sure to leave a gap at the bottom of the tree for stuffing.

Stuff the tree (if you don't have toy stuffing on hand - other options are tissues torn up into small pieces or cotton balls pulled apart).

Machine stitch the final seam closed.
